Power Supply
HF5A-21
The power supply is connected via K1-1-OUT1+ / K1-2-OUT1- and K1-3-OUT2+ / K1-4-OUT2- to the circuit and depends on the output load.
The minimal voltage:
In addition a reserve voltage of approx 6 Volt is added.
,
First time Start up 2-wire
A 2-wire devices receives both its operating voltage and the control signal via the same two wires.
This means that the entire power supply and data communication takes place via just two wires.
The longer initial start up time for a 2-wire device is due to the fact that power cap has to be charged.
This capacitor stores energy and makes it available to the device to ensure stable and reliable operation.
After the initial charging phase, the device is fully functional and benefits from the additional stability provided by the power cap.
The improved starting behavior of the HF5A-2wire is as follows:
When power supply is first time applied to a HF5A-2, the inbuilt power condenser has to be loaded, before measurement values can be shown.
First time start up defined at 23 °C:
•Display turns on after 10 sec.
•No Display, Status LED blinks after 10 sec.
•After 30 seconds Start Up time the measured values can be displayed
Note: The starting behavior of an HF5A-2 wire can be optimized with two separated power supply!
•Faster charging of the Power Cap, due to higher current supply, as more energy is available •The device reaches the state in which the power cap is sufficiently charged more quickly to ensure stable operation |
HF5A-31 & HF5A-D1
The power supply is connected via K1-1-V- and K1-2-V+ to the circuit and depends from 18 VDC to a maximum of 36 VDC.
,
First time Start up 3-/ 4-wire
Typical: < 3 sec.
Current Consumption
HF5A-21: When both Outputs are connected, the maximum current consumption is 50 mA.
HF5A-31 & HF5A-D1: When both Outputs are connected, the maximum current consumption is under 100 mA.

Measured Parameters
The HygroFlex Advanced HF5A Transmitter can process up to 3 measured variables:
Depending on the connected sensor, 1 or 2 measured variables are sent to the transmitters.
For probes with 2 measured parameters, a psychrometric calculation can be carried out as a third measured variables.

Using the ROTRONIC HygroSoft software together with an NFC reader, the HF5A can be configured by the user to calculate one of the following parameters:
•Dew Point (Cdp) above and below freezing
•Frost Point (Fp) below freezing and dew point above freezing
•Wet-bulb Temperature (Tw)
•Enthalpy (H)
•Vapor Concentration (Dv)
•Specific Humidity (Q)
•Mixing ratio by weight (R)
•Vapor concentration at saturation (Dvs)
•Vapor partial pressure (E)
•Vapor saturation pressure (Ew)
•Volume mixing Ratio
Analog Output signals
With the ROTRONIC HygroSoft software any of the two analog output signals can be made to correspond to one of the following:
• Relative humidity
• Temperature
• Calculated parameter
Any output can also be disabled.

The scale of each analog output can be set within the numerical limits of -999.99 and 9999.99. The D/A converters used to generate the analog output signals feature a 16-bit resolution.
Both analog outputs provide the same type of signal. With the exception of the HF5A-2 (always 4…20 mA), the type of signal can be selected with the ROTRONIC HygroSoft software to any of the following:
Current output: 0…20 mA, 4…20 mA.
Voltage output: 0…1V, 0…5V or 0…10V.

Note: Both circuits have an internal polarity protection. Incorrect supply voltages as well as excessive loads on the outputs can damage the Transmitter.
Simulator mode
A simulation value can be activated for each measured value if a HygroFlex device. If a simulation value is activated for a measured value,
the set simulation value is used instead of the current measured value. This allows you to test whether the corresponding HygroFlex device
processes a defined fictitious measured value correctly. The simulation value can only be set, switched on and off via the NFC interface and the
corresponding mobile phone or PC application.
Display mode
The HygroFlex devices have a multi-colored LED for displaying device statues and, optionally , an LC display for displaying all possible device statues.
For the error display the user can choose between a detailed and a simple error display. The selection is made in the properties of the device.
Status LED
The HF5A has per default 3 different status LED light colors, which are indicating 3 different statuses.
The 3/4-wire or digital version of the HF5A are permanently illuminated.
The HF5A 2-wire version has only a flashing light.
Green stands for normal operation:
|
Orange stands for simulation mode:
|
Red stands for error mode:
|
In addition to the simple or standard status lighting, the HF5A offers a special flashing pattern (particularly useful for devices without a display), which can provide the user with more detailed error descriptions.
See more: LED status light
Hierarchy of error messages
In order to get the normal operation status Green, the following errors have to be resolved:
•Serious errors (Serious errors are errors that prevent the regular operation of the device)
•Probe & Sensor errors (Probe errors are errors of the connected probe that must be resolved before the device can resume regular operation)
•Power errors / Output errors and scaling errors (Output errors in case no load is on current output(only with a 3- and 4-wire), or out of scaling)
•Alarm mode
•Simulator mode
•Normal Operation
In case of a serious error, please disconnect the power supply and re power the device again.
If the failure still exist you may get in contact with Support department.
For example:
If an RMS-TCD-S-001 is mounted on the transmitter, and the Output 2 is not used, it is necessary to change the Output2 to unused within the HygroSoft software, otherwise
the device will show you a constant error mode.
To prevent an error message within the current Output Monitoring, the current version should have at least a 100 Ohm Resistor applied to the OUT1- and OUT2-.
