What is an ISM Band?

The industrial, scientific and medical (ISM) radio bands are reserved internationally for the use of wireless communication within these industries. Within the ISM band exists the 868 MHz and 915 MHz frequencies.

868 MHz is a frequency that is available to be used by anyone (regulations still apply). 868 MHz is mainly used in Europe.

915 MHz is a frequency that is available to be used by anyone (regulations still apply). 915 MHz is mainly used in the USA and Australia.

A wireless frequency is measured in Hertz, which is the count of how quickly a signal changes every second. 868 MHz means that the signal changes 868 million times every second.
